Why We Need to Make Our Own Movies Even in the Indie World

What’s sad is the commentors don’t get the point of what sujewa  is saying.   But then again it could also be said that black filmmakers need to get out there and do their own mumblecore movies or Dogme 95 etc.  or any new film movement that’s going on.  Please don’t get me on these movements.  We can’t always be looking for white or other people to hire us as crew or cast us.  We have to start making our own films.    Why do we always expect others to do for us what we won’t do for ourselves?  Why do we think people should put us in their films.  So what if these films are mostly by and about white people. They owe us nothing and vice versa.  So what if it’s mostly men?  That just means that women filmmakers need to get out there and start making movies.  So what if there aren’t any black people in these movies or even behind the damn camera.  What does this mean folks?  We have to get out there and start making movies!

I do agree with the sujewa these filmmakers could easily cast minorities if they really wanted to, but we could easily make features and cast ourselves if we wanted to as well.

So what is everyone elses opinion on this?

    I agree.

I watch Mad Men. I get jealous in a weird way. I wish someone could create something as high quality by / for black people, but I don’t know if we’d fully appreciate it. All we get now-a-days are horrible comedies and victim dramas.

I know right! I get so tired of black people complaining about other groups not putting us in their films. I remember reading something where someone was talking about Hollywood not letting black people in etc. Why the hell would they let us in anyway? They have no obligation to us. The movie industry isn’t some sort of social service it’s an industry. You want in? Do what needs to be done to get in.

If Hollywood needs to let anyone in it’s men and women who look like grown men and women. You mentioned Madd Men what I like about that series is the adults look it. When we have to go to Australia, Britian and hordes of other countries something is wrong. I’ll take half the dudes of Old Hollywood movies and tv over most of the ones today.lol Even the dudes who weren’t that hot were because of how they were portrayed on screen.
